Gabriel grew up in West Virginia. Her early love of myths, folktales, and science fiction led her to study History of Religions at Bard College and the University of Chicago. She has worked as a waitress, adjunct, academic editor, documentary film researcher, used book buyer, short fiction contest judge, and early childhood teacher. She lives in Cambridge, MA with her partner Gavin, son Otto, and cats Daylight and Freedom (named after famous trains).
Gabriel is inspired by classic illustrators such as Walter Crane, Edmund Dulac, and Beatrix Potter.
